One reader asked how many things I own, so here's my answer. Since I'm 16, I don’t have to own things like spoons or towels. That will all change one day, and my list will inevitably get longer. It's not a competition though, so who's counting?

You can also see a list of my clothes here. I like to go through and make a new list every couple months. It's interesting to see how things come and go, as your needs change. Lists are so much fun! Have you ever counted your stuff?
So you got rid of your pellet gun? :)
ReplyDelete@Laura Yes, I gave it away. :)
ReplyDeleteWhoops. Laura must have been signed in when I asked that, it was actually Isa. haha!
ReplyDelete@Isa Haha!! That's okay. I should have known it was you, from the colon-smiley face if nothing else! ;)
ReplyDeleteHi! I was just wondering, how do you deal with school. I mean, do you have any tips on how to be minimalist for school?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Hey yourself! I don't go to school, since I'm homeschooled... but I guess you would just apply the same principles like in any other area. Less is more, so you could carry fewer things in your backpack. One pencil, one notepad, etc.
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and its making me happy, sometimes I feel like people don't understand the minimalist way of living.. Your blog is give me a quiet happy feeling, hard to explain, I just want to say, that I'm happy to find your blog! :) its great! And this list is so cool, I was yet never count my stuff, its a great idea :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI performed a count a year or so back before I moved into my own place and after reading the 100 thing challenge book. Back then I didn't have too many things to my name and think I actually fell under the 100 limit ...
This figure took a huge hike when I moved into my own place, but after separating with my partner it has now fallen to a much lower figure ... I am hoping to over the next few months reduce the number of things I own so that they will fit in the boot of my car, as I will be travelling and moving more often then ever before.
I am interested about peoples stationery type things ... For example it would be nice to just have one pad and one pencil and one pen, but unfortunately that never seems to be the case, and what happens when it runs out all of a sudden?
Another question - Do you keep a journal of any kind?
I have always been fascinated by the journals left by great minds of old, like Leonardo Da Vinci, and always wanted to keep some of my own ... but it seems like such a hard thing to do nowadays, and although digital is easier and obviously portable (and backup-able) it just feels that due to information overload it wouldn't be treated the same.
Thanks again, this has rekindled my spirit of less is more.
Jason
Jason,
ReplyDeleteOh okay. I try to keep my notebooks/stationary limited to two, but there have definitely been times when it has gotten to 5+. When that does happen, I'll usually give the extras away to siblings or friends. If you only have one pad and pen, and are worried about running out all of a sudden, just buy a backup when you're getting close to using them up.
Yes, I have recently started keeping a journal. It really hard to remember to write in it. There are many days where I don't write at all, but I try to at least do it a few times a week. I'm going to try and be a little more faithful in keeping up with it this year, it really is super helpful to have a journal to refer back to and get ideas on paper. I think it gets easier as you go along. I hope so anyway. ;)
My pleasure! Glad it inspired you.
Sarah
Every time I read this list I'm impressed.
ReplyDelete@stylememinimal Thank you! I really need to update this. My list has changed a good bit since then. Gained a few things, lost a few things.
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to be minimal for a few months now and I just got under the 70 mark.I am young like you so I don't have spoons and that stuff either. I find 25 things really impressive.I think my main problem is me collecting things. I was always in to collecting and I cant seem to get things down. I can hopefully be down to 25 things within the coming months.
